Background
Debloat & Detox is a nutritional supplement in the DR.VEGAN® range, targeted specifically at bloating and associated digestive discomfort. Given that bloating is the most prevalent gut health symptom and one of the most commonly cited motivations for investing in gut health in surveys conducted by DR.VEGAN® (77.3% of respondents), a product focused on this symptom addresses a primary unmet need. This abstract reports individual-level user-reported outcomes for Debloat & Detox from a wider cross-sectional survey, including effectiveness, time to symptom relief, and symptom relief profile, with direct comparison to Gut Works® where relevant. The survey was conducted by DR.VEGAN®, October 2022.
Methods
Of 811 survey respondents, 738 answered whether they had tried Debloat & Detox®. Those who had (n=335) were asked their overall effectiveness rating (six-point scale); time to symptom relief, and which specific symptoms had improved. A likelihood-to-recommend score (1–10) was also collected. A secondary analysis excluded respondents who answered ‘too early to tell’ (n=49), leaving a rated cohort of 285. All analyses are based on individual-level data.
Results
Uptake
Of 738 respondents who answered the Debloat & Detox question, 335 (45.4%) had tried the product - a penetration rate comparable to that of Gut Works® (46.4%) within the same gut-health-engaged population.
Overall effectiveness
Across all 334 rated users, 11.4% (n=38) rated Debloat & Detox as extremely effective, 20.7% (n=69) as very effective, and 36.8% (n=123) as somewhat effective, yielding a combined positive rate of 68.9%. A total of 9.0% (n=30) rated it not so effective, 7.5% (n=25) not at all effective, and 14.7% (n=49) too early to tell. Among the 285 definitively rated users (excluding ‘too early to tell’), the combined positive response rate was 80.7%, with 37.5% rating Debloat & Detox as extremely or very effective, compared with 45.0% for Gut Works®. The negative response rate among rated users was 19.3%. See Figure 1 for the full effectiveness distribution.
| Effectiveness rating | n | % excl. 'too early' |
|---|---|---|
| Extremely effective | 38 | 13.3% |
| Very effective | 69 | 24.2% |
| Somewhat effective | 123 | 43.2% |
| Combined positive (ext+very+somewhat) | 230 | 80.7% |
| Not so effective | 30 | 10.5% |
| Not at all effective | 25 | 8.8% |
| Too early to tell | 49 | — |
Comparison with Gut Works®
Gut Works® achieved a combined positive rate of 83.0% among rated users, compared with 80.7% for Debloat & Detox. The proportion of users rating each product as extremely or very effective was higher for Gut Works® (45.0%) than for Debloat & Detox (37.5%), whilst the negative response rate was lower for Gut Works® (17.0%) than for Debloat & Detox (19.3%). These differences likely reflect the broader multi-symptom formulation of Gut Works® relative to the more targeted bloating and detox profile of Debloat & Detox.
Time to symptom relief
Of 295 users who reported an onset of relief, 22.0% (n=65) noticed improvement within the first week, and 31.5% (n=93) within 1–2 weeks. Cumulatively, 53.5% of users experiencing relief did so within two weeks, and 73.5% within three weeks — an onset profile very similar to that observed for Gut Works®.
| Symptom relieved | n | % of users (n=321) |
|---|---|---|
| Bloating | 221 | 68.8% |
| Excessive wind or gas | 92 | 28.7% |
| Constipation | 63 | 19.6% |
| Diarrhoea | 31 | 9.7% |
| Stomach cramps | 29 | 9.0% |
| Acid reflux | 25 | 7.8% |
| Urgency to use the toilet | 16 | 5.0% |
| Fatigue | 15 | 4.7% |
Likelihood to recommend
Of 318 respondents who provided a recommendation score, the mean was 6.93 out of 10 (median 8). A total of 34.3% (n=109) gave a score of 9 or 10, and a further 27.4% (n=87) scored 7 or 8, giving a combined 7–10 score from 61.6% of users. Compared with Gut Works® (mean 7.83, 77.6% scoring 7–10), the recommendation profile was somewhat lower, consistent with the more targeted scope of Debloat & Detox. The higher proportion scoring 1–6 (38.4%) likely reflects users whose symptoms extended beyond bloating and wind, and for whom a broader formulation may be more appropriate.
Conclusions
Based on user-reported outcomes, individual-level analysis of this survey demonstrates that Debloat & Detox achieves a combined positive response rate of 80.7% among definitively rated users, with over half experiencing symptom relief within two weeks. Its symptom relief profile is tightly focused on bloating and wind - the two most prevalent gut symptoms in this population - making it a clinically well-targeted option for users whose principal complaints are in these categories. Comparison with Gut Works® suggests that Debloat & Detox® provides comparable overall positive response rates (80.7% vs 83.0%), but with a more concentrated bloating-focused symptom-relief profile and somewhat lower rates of systemic symptom relief. Both products address real, high-burden needs within this population. Prospective, controlled studies stratified by primary symptom presentation would help characterise which product is best suited to different symptom profiles and whether combination use offers additive benefit.
