PMS Hero® and PMS Support Research Abstract For Professionals
Effectiveness of PMS Hero® in Alleviating Premenstrual Symptoms: User-Reported Outcomes from a Cross-Sectional Survey
March 2023
Key Findings
- 90.9% of rated users reported a combined positive effectiveness rate for PMS Hero® (n=33); 51.5% rated it as extremely or very effective - the highly positive rate.
- Mood swings were the most frequently relieved symptom (72.7%), directly addressing the most prevalent (70.5%) and most disruptive (39.6%) PMS symptom in the wider survey population.
- PMS Hero® provided relief across all five of the most-disruptive PMS symptoms: mood swings (72.7%), depressed mood (33.3%), insomnia (12.1%), bloating (15.2%), and headaches (24.2%).
- PMS Hero®’s 90.9% combined positive rate substantially outperforms all standard self-management strategies assessed: no widely used remedy achieved a mean effectiveness score above 7/10; general vitamins and supplements achieved 46.9% scoring 7+.
- Qualitative observations include an unanticipated benefit not captured in the structured survey: one user reported that PMS Hero® “regulates my period so I don’t get them too frequently”, suggesting possible cycle-modulating effects warranting further investigation.
Background
PMS Hero® is a nutritional supplement developed by DR.VEGAN®, formulated to target the physical and psychological symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Given the limited effectiveness of commonly used self-management strategies documented in the wider survey, and the high multi-symptom burden experienced by most women (mean 8.3 symptoms per respondent), evidence on the real-world effectiveness of targeted nutritional interventions is needed. This abstract reports user-reported outcomes for PMS Hero® from individual-level analysis of a cross-sectional survey of 265 women. The survey was conducted by DR.VEGAN®, March 2023.
Methods
Within the cross-sectional survey of 265 women, respondents were asked whether they had tried PMS Hero® (n=215 who answered), their overall effectiveness rating on a five-point scale (extremely effective, very effective, somewhat effective, not so effective, not at all effective), and which specific symptoms they had experienced the most relief from. Symptom relief rates were calculated as a proportion of PMS Hero® users who provided symptom data (n=33). Open-ended comments provided supplementary qualitative context. All analyses are based on individual-level responses.
Results
Uptake
Of 215 respondents who answered the PMS Hero® question, 34 (15.8%) had tried the product. The relatively limited uptake is consistent with the broader pattern of general supplement use (44.3% of respondents used vitamins or supplements of any kind) and reflects PMS Hero®’s position as a specialist product. Several respondents indicated intent to try PMS Hero® or were awaiting their first order.
Overall effectiveness
Of 33 PMS Hero® users who provided an effectiveness rating, 21.2% (n=7) rated it as extremely effective, 30.3% (n=10) as very effective, and 39.4% (n=13) as somewhat effective, yielding a combined positive response rate of 90.9%. Only 6.1% (n=2) rated it not so effective and 3.0% (n=1) not at all effective. The highly positive rate of 51.5% (extremely + very effective) indicates that over half of user experienced meaningful, substantive symptomatic relief. See Figure 1.
| Effectiveness rating | n | % of rated users | Cumulative % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extremely effective | 7 | 21.2% | 21.2% |
| Very effective | 10 | 30.3% | 51.5% |
| Somewhat effective | 13 | 39.4% | 90.9% |
| Combined positive (all three above) | 30 | 90.9% | — |
| Not so effective | 2 | 6.1% | — |
| Not at all effective | 1 | 3.0% | — |
| Combined negative | 3 | 9.1% | — |
Comparative effectiveness context
PMS Hero’s combined positive rate of 90.9% substantially outperforms all standard self-management strategies assessed in the survey. No widely used remedy achieved a mean score above 7/10. Exercise achieved the highest mean effectiveness score (6.91; 58.7% scoring 7+), followed by hot water bottle (6.41), ibuprofen (6.33), and antidepressants (6.29). General vitamins and supplements achieved a mean of 6.24, with 46.9% scoring 7+. PMS Hero’s 90.9% combined positive and 51.5% highly positive rates represent a markedly stronger outcome than any comparator in this population. See Figure 2.

Symptom relief profile and alignment with survey burden
Among 33 PMS Hero® users, mood swings were by far the most frequently relieved symptom (72.7%, n=24). Figure 3 presents the full symptom relief profile alongside survey prevalence data and the most-disruptive symptom ranking.
| Symptom | n | PMS Hero® relief rate | Survey prevalence (n=237) | Most disruptive rank (n=217) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mood swings | 24 | 72.7% | 70.5% | 1st (39.6%) |
| Depressed / mild depression | 11 | 33.3% | 48.9% | 2nd (24.4%) |
| Less energy | 11 | 33.3% | 56.1% | =7th (16.1%) |
| Headaches or migraines | 8 | 24.2% | 46.0% | 5th (19.8%) |
| Poor concentration / brain fog | 7 | 21.2% | 51.5% | 6th (18.0%) |

| Breast tenderness | 4 | 12.1% | 49.8% | Not in top 10 |
| No symptomatic benefit | 3 | 9.1% | — | — |
Qualitative observations
Open-ended responses provided important supplementary evidence. One user noted PMS Hero® “definitely helps to lessen my mental symptoms”. Another reported that it “regulates my period so I don’t get them too frequently” - an unanticipated benefit not captured in the structured symptom question, suggesting possible cycle-regulating effects warranting investigation. One respondent who had only just started taking it noted they could not yet evaluate its effect (“To be fair I’ve only just started taking them, so I don’t know yet”), consistent with the pattern observed in the MenoFriend® analysis where early users tended to report lower effectiveness - suggesting that duration-stratified analysis may be warranted in future studies of PMS Hero®. Several prospective users expressed strong interest, indicating that awareness is the primary barrier to uptake.
Conclusions
Based on user-reported outcomes, PMS Hero® is associated with broad-spectrum symptomatic relief across the most prevalent and disruptive PMS symptoms, with a combined positive response rate of 90.9% and a highly positive rate of 51.5% among rated users. Its strongest area - mood swings - directly targets the symptom identified as most disruptive by women in the wider survey, with relief reported by over 72% of PMS Hero® users. The product’s effectiveness substantially outperforms all standard self-management strategies and the general supplement category in this population. Given the high, multi-symptom burden of PMS, the widespread dissatisfaction with existing management approaches, and the near-total absence of institutional support, these findings support PMS Hero® as a meaningful evidence-informed nutritional option for managing PMS. Larger prospective studies with pre-specified follow-up duration are warranted to confirm these outcomes and to assess durability of response over successive menstrual cycles.
