pH Hero® Effectiveness Research Abstract For Professionals
Effectiveness of pH Hero® in Supporting Vaginal Health: User-Reported Outcomes from a Cross-Sectional Survey
July 2024
Key Findings
- 78.7% of rated users reported a combined positive effectiveness rate for pH Hero® (n=75); 38.7% rated it as extremely effective — the highest top-box score of any treatment assessed in this survey, including creams and pessaries (33.8%).
- pH Hero® outperforms cranberry juice — the most widely used non-prescription remedy — across all effectiveness metrics: 78.7% vs 59.3% combined positive, 38.7% vs 7.4% extremely effective.
- 75.0% of responsive users experienced benefit within four weeks, consistent with the physiological timeline of pH balance restoration and microbiome modulation.
- Symptom relief spans both infection-related conditions (UTIs: 25.0%, thrush: 26.4%, BV: 8.3%, pH balance: 26.4%) and chronic daily-living symptoms (dryness: 31.9%, itchiness: 33.3%, discomfort: 33.3%).
- One long-term user noted a preventive benefit (“I’ve taken it for about 4 months — no UTI so far”), consistent with pH Hero®’s proposed upstream mechanism of pH balance maintenance.
Background
pH Hero® is a nutritional supplement developed by DR.VEGAN®, formulated to support vaginal pH balance and help prevent and manage common vaginal health conditions including UTIs, thrush, BV, dryness, discomfort, and itchiness. A wider survey of 1,202 women documents that these conditions are highly prevalent, largely chronic, and inadequately managed by widely used remedies such as cranberry juice (combined positive: 59.3%). This abstract reports individual-level user-reported outcomes for pH Hero®, including effectiveness ratings, time to symptom relief, and symptom-level outcomes, with comparisons to other management strategies where relevant. The survey was conducted by DR.VEGAN®, July 2024.
Methods
Of 1,202 survey respondents, 1,067 answered whether they had tried pH Hero®. Those who had (n=79) were asked their overall effectiveness rating (four-point scale: extremely effective, somewhat effective, not so effective, not at all effective), how long after starting pH Hero® they first experienced symptom relief, and which specific symptoms had improved. Open-ended comments provided supplementary qualitative data. All analyses are based on individual-level responses.
Results
Uptake
Of 1,067 respondents who answered the pH Hero® question, 79 (7.4%) had tried the product. This relatively low uptake reflects pH Hero®’s position as a newer, specialist nutritional supplement within a market dominated by over-the-counter creams, pessaries, and cranberry juice. Free-text comments indicated considerable latent demand, with multiple respondents who had not yet used the product expressing strong intent to try it, suggesting that awareness is the primary barrier rather than willingness.
Overall effectiveness
Of 75 pH Hero® users who provided an effectiveness rating, 38.7% (n=29) rated it as extremely effective and 40.0% (n=30) as somewhat effective, yielding a combined positive response rate of 78.7%. A total of 17.3% (n=13) rated it not so effective and 4.0% (n=3) not at all effective. The extremely effective rating of 38.7% is the highest single-category top-box score of any treatment assessed in this survey, including creams and pessaries (33.8%), dietary changes (25.0%), urinary tract supplements (22.5%), and probiotic supplements (16.2%). See Figure 1.
| Effectiveness rating | n | % of rated users | Cumulative % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extremely effective | 29 | 38.7% | 38.7% |
| Somewhat effective | 30 | 40.0% | 78.7% |
| Combined positive | 59 | 78.7% | — |
| Not so effective | 13 | 17.3% | — |
| Not at all effective | 3 | 4.0% | — |
| Combined negative | 16 | 21.3% | — |
Comparison with existing treatments
pH Hero®’s effectiveness profile is directly compared with all other management strategies assessed in the survey in Figure 2. Creams and pessaries (86.0%) and dietary changes (86.2%) achieve higher combined positive rates, reflecting their established clinical and behavioural mechanisms; however, pH Hero® records the highest extremely effective top-box rating of any option. Cranberry juice, the most widely used non-prescription remedy (used by 33.6% of respondents), has the weakest effectiveness profile (combined positive: 59.3%; extremely effective: 7.4%).
| Treatment / remedy | n | Extremely effective | Somewhat effective |
|---|---|---|---|
| pH Hero® | 75 | 38.7% | 40.0% |
| Creams and pessaries | 471 | 33.8% | 52.2% |
| Dietary changes | 80 | 25.0% | 61.3% |
| Urinary tract supplements | 182 | 22.5% | 46.2% |

Alignment with survey-identified needs
The symptom relief profile of pH Hero® maps directly onto the most prevalent conditions in this population. Vaginal dryness (survey prevalence: 55.1%; pH Hero® relief: 31.9%), itchiness and discomfort (widespread symptoms of dryness and infection), UTIs (19.0%; 25.0% relieved), and thrush (17.1%; 26.4% relieved) are all among both the most commonly experienced conditions and the most commonly addressed by pH Hero®. The product’s impact on overall pH balance (26.4%) is particularly notable, as pH imbalance is an upstream mechanism common to UTIs, BV, and thrush simultaneously.
Qualitative observations
Open-ended comments provided vivid corroborating evidence. “This product has been incredible”; “The pills have been absolutely amazing for my vaginal health — a total life changer”; “pH Hero really works … if I run out of supplements, I notice a big reduction in comfort”; “I was always aware of my bladder … since pH Hero I can’t feel my bladder at all even when I need to go — it has calmed right down; it’s back to how it was”. One long-term user reported a preventive benefit: “I’ve taken it for about 4 months — no UTI so far.” A small number of adverse observations were noted (one case of bloating; one case of skin itching on the torso), though neither led to discontinuation. One user noted they wished the formulation were stronger.
Conclusions
Based on user-reported outcomes, pH Hero® achieves a combined positive effectiveness rate of 78.7%, with the highest single-category extremely-effective rating (38.7%) of any treatment assessed in the survey, including creams, pessaries, and probiotic supplements. Its symptom-relief profile spans both the acute/recurrent infection conditions (UTIs, thrush, BV) and the chronic daily-living symptoms (dryness, discomfort, itchiness) that are most prevalent in this population. Three-quarters of responsive users experience relief within four weeks. Qualitative feedback is strongly positive, with several users describing transformative improvements in daily comfort and infection frequency. These findings position pH Hero® as a compelling evidence-informed nutritional option for the management of vaginal health, particularly for women in the peri- and post-menopausal transition. Larger prospective studies with standardised outcome measures and defined follow-up are warranted to confirm these findings and to characterise optimal duration of use and responder profiles.
